More Pan And Scan Woes

More Pan And Scan Woes…

It looks as if MGM Home Entertainment will be releasing even more pan and scan only titles on DVD. According to The Digital Bits web site, MGM Home Entertainment will be releasing KINGPIN, THE SECRET OF NIHM and A FISH CALLED WANDA pan and scan only.

First there was MOONSTRUCK, then CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, for further details see Pan And Scan Turmoil- The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Saga. I really don’t know what the folks at MGM are thinking.

DVD consumers don’t want pan and scan only titles, so these decisions defy explanation.

If I had the funding, I would license many of the pan and scan only titles on the market and release them as Special Editions.

Considering all the positive press THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY is getting, a Special Edition of KINGPIN would be a natural. KINGPIN is a gut-bustingly funny film that screams to be released in its full wide screen splendor. Of course any Special Edition of KINGPIN would feature the 16:9 anamorphic enhancement, plus a running audio commentary with both its cast and crew. Of course, A FISH CALLED WANDA would get the same treatment.  Plus I’d try to get my hands on any outtakes that might still exist, and upgrade the soundtrack to 5.1.

So much for my pipe dreams…

If you would like to see KINGPIN, THE SECRET OF NIHM and A FISH CALLED WANDA released in their proper aspect ratios, along with the anamorphic enhancement, please contact MGM.
