New $27 Million
Starring Academy Award Nominee Dennis Hopper With Stephen Dorff, Debi Mazar & Charles Dance
On April 27, 1999
(Studio City, CA) - Sterling Home Entertainment, the premier independent home video distributor for the motion picture production companies Lions Gate Films and Imperial Entertainment, will release the $27 million home video premiere title SPACE TRUCKERS on April 27, 1999.
Academy Award nominee Dennis Hopper (Easy Rider, Speed, Waterworld) leads an all-star cast including Stephen Dorff (Blade, Judgment Night, City of Industry), Debi Mazar (Beethoven's 2nd, Goodfellas, Batman Forever) and Charles Dance (Alien 3, The Last Action Hero) in director Stuart Gordon's (Re-Animator, Fortress, Robot Jox) newest science-fiction adventure, SPACE TRUCKERS, featuring special visual effects by Brian Johnson (Aliens, Dragonheart) and Paul Gentry (Terminator 2 - Judgment Day). The year is 2196 - John Canyon (Hopper) is a down-on-his-luck independent trucker trying to keep an honest living by transporting loads across the solar system in his rocket-powered rig. In a last ditch effort to stay in business rather than being forced into teaming up with "The Corporation," Canyon joins forces with Mike Pucci (Dorff) to pull off a dangerous transport - contents unknown. At over five times the going pay rate, it's an offer they can't refuse. With the help from stowaway Cindy (Mazar), the trio set out on an adventure they will never forget. In order to make the scheduled deadline, Canyon abandons the usual shipping lanes and heads into the scum cluster - a war zone of bandits, black rocks and rogue asteroids, where they eventually are hijacked by the Regalia, a pirate warship headed by Capt. Macanundo (Dance). It is here that the secret of the mystery containers are revealed and the battle for the universe begins! SPACE TRUCKERS will also be released day-and-date on DVD-ROM format as part of the newly launched Sterling Home Entertainment DVD Millennium Series. This deluxe edition of the film will feature a widescreen presentation (2.35:1 aspect ratio) with an additional Spanish-subtitled format, audio commentary, scene index & interactive menus, detailed production notes with cast & crew interviews and biographies, and theatrical trailer; along with enhanced DVD-ROM content including complete screenplay with script interaction, trivia games, and internet connection to exciting websites.

Today I had a very pleasant conversation with Cary Roan of The Roan Group. Cary announced that The Roan Group would be entering the DVD marketplace in a big way. While the DVD format has been growing over the last two years, The Roan Group has remained noticeably absent (aside from Magic Lantern Entertainment, their joint venture with VCI Home Video). The Roan Group has been biding their time and preparing DVD masters for about 200 titles. Many of The Roan Group’s DVD releases will include double and triple features. Boxed sets are also in the works. In the works are re-issues of titles that have been released on the low cost, low quality public domain DVD labels. Where these low cost DVDs have been noted for their horrible- unwatchable quality, The Roan Group promises that their releases will be mastered from the finest 35mm film elements and will feature superior DVD authoring. Cary Roan made it clear that he wants The Roan Group to offer the best quality DVDs possible. To maximize quality, The Roan Group will be utilizing dual layered DVD 9 discs whenever possible. Upcoming titles will include:
THE FIGHTING SULLIVANS $29.95
WHITE ZOMBIE $24.95
THE FILM NOIR OF ANTHONY MANN $39.95
THE OUTLAW $24.95
PRE-CODE HOLLYWOOD: THE RISQU… YEARS $39.95
ROY ROGERS VOL. 1 $29.95
HOLLYWOOD SLEUTHS $29.95
HORROR CLASSICS $29.95
MR. WONG SERIES $59.95
VINCENT PRICE COLLECTION $29.95
JAMES CAGNEY COLLECTION $44.95
CLASSIC NOIR $29.95
A catalog detailing upcoming release will be available from The Roan Group, anyone who is interested in the catalog can request a copy by writing or faxing The Roan Group:

The boxed set includes a mail-in offer for a fifth DVD featuring a 20th anniversary documentary/tribute to ALIEN. Both ALIEN and ALIENS will feature 16:9 anamorphic wide screen transfers, while the presence of 16:9 enhancement for ALIEN 3 and ALIEN RESURRECTION remains unclear. ALIEN will feature "making of" materials including interviews, deleted scenes & photographs. ALIENS will be the 17 minute longer director's cut of the film. ALIEN 3 will feature a 23 minute documentary. ALIEN RESURRECTION will include a featurette and interviews.
The Digital Bits as well as several other web sites have reported that THE BLACK HOLE is missing the right channel from the 5.1 channel. Anchor Bay Entertainment is aware of the problem and will be offering an exchage to anyone that purchased the defective discs. Details have yet to be worked out on how Anchor Bay will handle the exchange.
