HEAVY METAL COLLECTOR'S SERIES TO BE RELEASED ON DVD

Columbia TriStar Home Video has announced the November 23, 1999 DVD release of HEAVY METAL COLLECTOR'S SERIES. The legendary, animated science-fiction classic, produced by Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters, Space Jam) and directed by Gerald Potterton (Yellow Submarine, Animal House) comes to DVD with a wealth of extraordinary special features.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Inspired by the fantastic stories and exceptional sexual graphics that brought Heavy Metal magazine an international readership, HEAVY METAL COLLECTOR'S SERIES creates a unique entertainment experience with its historic marriage of film, music and art. It transports the viewer to a step beyond science fiction into a universe of magic, passionate fantasies, awesome good and terrifying evil. With its provocative animation sequences, HEAVY METAL pioneered the introduction in the West of what has come to be known as "Japanimation": an innovative, imaginative style, beyond erotica to exotica and always staggeringly beautiful that was introduced by Japanese artists/animators starting in the late 70's. HEAVY METAL interweaves six visionary stories of science fiction, fantasy and sword- and-sorcerer overtones. Each has its own distinctive style created and brought to life by underground avant-garde comic-strip artists. Music is a pivotal ingredient in creating the terrifying and mysterious futuristic world seen and heard in HEAVY METAL COLLECTOR'S SERIES. 13-time Academy Award nominee Elmer Bernstein scored the film with song contributions from 13 notable bands and solo performers including Black Sabbath, Devo, Blue Oyster Cult, Journey, Stevie Nicks and Sammy Hagar. Since its release in 1981, HEAVY METAL has become a cult favorite, playing for months on end in theatres around the country at midnight screenings. The release of HEAVY METAL COLLECTOR'S SERIES on DVD allows fans of the film to own a definitive version of this unique animated adventure.

FIVE EASY PIECES AND THE LOSS OF SEXUAL INNOCENCE COME TO DVD

On November 16, 1999 Columbia TriStar Home Video will release the following two titles on DVD.

FIVE EASY PIECES

SPECIAL FEATURES:

In an Academy Award-nominated performance for Best Actor, Jack Nicholson is outstanding in FIVE EASY PIECES, the acclaimed drama from director Bob Rafelson. Although a brilliant, classical pianist from an intellectual, well-to-do family, Robert Dupea (Nicholson) has made a career out of running from job to job and woman to woman. Presently working in an oil field, Dupea spends most of his free time downing beers, playing poker and being noncommittal with his sexy but witless girlfriend, Rayette (Karen Black, "Burnt Offerings"). When he is summoned to his father’s deathbed, Dupea returns home with Rayette where he meets and falls for a sophisticated woman (Susan Anspach, "Into the Fire"). Now caught between his conflicting lifestyles, the gifted but troubled Dupea must face issues that will change his life forever. FIVE EASY PIECES also garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

THE LOSS OF SEXUAL INNOCENCE

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Told in a non-linear structure, this is the story of Nic (Julian Sands, "Leaving Las Vegas"), told through the crucial, sometimes humorous and often heart-breaking episodes of his life. As the film weaves it’s vivid, hypnotic narrative, we catch glimpses of what makes Nic (Sands) the man that he is, tracing incidents that happen to him as a five year-old boy, as a 12 year-old adolescent, as a 16 year-old teenager and as a fully grown man

working as a film ethnographic. Cross-cut with the tale of Nic is the classic parable of Adam and Eve, which serves as an allegory to the events of Nic’s life and the two tales intertwined, ultimately serves as a powerful summation of the loss of innocence of not just Nic, but of the humanity of our species.

He is also in love with Jerome, his schoolmate and son of his father’s colleague. TO BUILD A FIRE

Starring: Ian Hogg, Narrated by Orson Welles, Directed by David Cobham. Jack London's famous short story is filmed with complete fidelity to London's graphic narrative and could be called a screen short story in its purest form. The stark realism of the chilling images combined with the power of Orson Welles' reading fills the viewer with an awesome admiration for the story's courageous hero. The visuals add a new dimension to London's prose and the viewer feels the icy cold to an extent that reaches far beyond the power of words alone. This chilly discomfort provides a tense background for the suspense which is to come as the man attempts to build the fire he must have in order to survive.

32-year-old Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler) is a law school graduate who is steadfastly avoiding the pressures of adult responsibilities. As the lone holdout among his group of law school buddies, he eschews the career and marriage fast track for a part-time job, the neighborhood sports bar and endless take-out meals. Even his roommate and old law school buddy, Kevin (Stewart), is joining the ranks of the grown-ups by proposing to his longtime girlfriend, Corinne (Leslie Mann, "The Cable Guy"), who’s eternally at odds with Sonny and whose former life as a Hooters waitress is always good for a chuckle. The only people who appreciate Sonny’s unique outlook on life are Corinne’s beautiful sister, Layla (Adams), a hard-working attorney, and Sonny’s longtime take-out food delivery guy (Schneider), who’s practically achieved the status of a third roommate. In a misguided attempt to impress his girlfriend, Vanessa (Swanson), and prove he’s ready for responsibility, Sonny adopts a five-year old boy, Julian (Cole and Dylan Sprouse), under the false pretense of being his biological father. When the plan doesn’t work out and Vanessa leaves him anyway, Sonny tries to "return" the kid to Social Services. Faced with placing Julian in a children’s home until the agency finds a suitable foster family, Sonny agrees to take care of him for the time being. Although plunged into the unknown territory of sleep deprivation, irritating children’s songs and bedwetting, Sonny soon embraces his role as a temporary dad taking an unconventional approach to child rearing. But the ruse eventually catches up with him when Social Services discovers he isn’t Julian’s real father. In an attempt to keep the boy he has grown to love and make their relationship legal and permanent, Sonny surprises himself, his family and friends as he comes to learn and accept real-life responsibility.

AUSTIN POWERS. THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME FILM SYNOPSIS

The year is 1999 and Austin Powers is honeymooning with the smashing Vanessa Kensington (Elizabeth Hurley) when he receives an "explosive" surprise that returns him to swinging single status. To make matters worse, Dr. Evil has returned to Earth from the frozen recesses of space and is hatching a new diabolical scheme to annihilate the world. It seems Dr. Evil uses a newly devised time machine to travel back to 1969, where he steals Austin Powers' mojo, rendering Austin ... powerless?

Luckily, British Intelligence has developed a unique time machine of their own - a psychedelic Volkswagen Beetle. In the biggest Austin Powers adventure yet, the International Man of Mystery must travel back to the swinging sixties, track down his mojo and thwart Dr. Evil's plot to destroy the world. Of course, along the way, Austin meets his match in CIA operative Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham), a fab chick, a hot spy and a fantastic motivation for restoring Austin's mojo.

Featuring the usual cast of suspects, including Dr. Evil's not-quite-evil-enough son Scott, his sidekick Number Two, and his henchwoman Frau Farbissina, this time Austin also has to contend with obese Scotsman Fat Bastard, as well as Mini-Me, a one-eighth replica of Dr. Evil--undersized but not to be underestimated.
