NOW ON- LINE...DVDAUTHORS.COM

A Full Service DVD Service Bureau and On-Line Service Makes Its Debut In The Middle Market

STAMFORD, Conn. - "There are hundreds of home video producers and distributors who are being cut out of the exploding DVD market due to the extremely high cost of authoring and production," says Michael Macari, Jr., founder of DVDAuthors.com. "Producers of performance programming and educational and special interest titles deserve a place in this burgeoning market and our business plan is to help them get in."

Macari, President and CEO of Stamford, Conn.-based EagleVision, Inc., a video production and post-production entity, made his remarks while announcing the launch of its newly created division, DVDAuthors.com. and the completion of the company's first round of DVD titles. The titles, a number of documentaries, opera, musical performance programs and a feature film, were produced for several different national home video distributors attracted to the company and its alternative approach to DVD authoring and production.

"Leveraging the resources, talent and expertise of EagleVision, DVDAuthors.com will assist customers nationwide in getting their new products and back catalogs out into the market - economically, yet with high quality, preservation-level encoding and the special features these clients desire and the consumers demand."

DVDAuthors.com is forging strategic partnerships and relationships with many of these producers and distributors to launch in 2000 an on-line DVD sale and rental operation as well, featuring family-centered movies, documentaries, music, performance titles and a host of special-interest programming. This DVD Channel will serve a special niche unavailable to consumers seeking out entertainment and classic programs other than first-run features, which are now being widely distributed on DVD on-line and at video stores nationwide.

DVDAuthors.com recently purchased and installed DVD authoring tools from Spruce Technologies and a host of hardware and software encoding units from a variety of manufacturers including Spruce and Heuris Systems. In addition, the company recently took delivery of one of the first 4.7 GB DVD-R drives available from Pioneer.

The company has complete, in-house, turnkey resources and systems for DVD title creation - versatile authoring; VBR (variable bit rate) encoding; audio sweetening and noise reduction; menu and graphics design; Dolby Digital AC-3 plus 5.1 audio encoding; sourcing from all digital and analog tape formats; special feature creation; and archiving services. In addition, the company maintains working relationships with full-service, high- volume DVD replicators and packaging suppliers, teaming up to offer clients one-stop authoring, production, mastering, replication and packaging solutions.

"In the initial, early-adoption days of DVD, most of the studios on the West Coast focused primarily on releasing new, first-run feature films to the retail market," Macari adds. "The acceptance of DVD in the consumer market is now firmly established - the fastest-growing consumer electronics launch in history. With this growth comes the demand for a wide-range of programming, both entertainment and education. We believe DVD is the replacement technology for home video (VHS). As CDs were to records and tapes, the growth of DVD sales over the next 10 years will be exponential". Next up for DVDAuthors.com - a series of DVD titles for three East Coast distributors; an enhanced DVD of "Christmas Is Coming," a PBS/EagleVision concert special airing this holiday season; and a collector's edition DVD of EagleVision's own critically acclaimed PBS/American Masters special chronicling the life of a legendary television talk show pioneer, "Jack Paar: As I Was Saying."

For more information on DVDAuthors.com, please visit the company's web-site at www.dvdauthors.com, or contact Geoffrey F.X. O' Connell, Vice-President Media and Development at 203-359-8777, or by email at DVD@DVDAuthors.com.

DESERT BLUE and UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: THE RETURN Day/Date with VHS releases

On December 28, 1999 Columbia TriStar Home Video will release the following three titles on DVD:

DESERT BLUE (Day/Date)

SPECIAL FEATURES

SYNOPSIS

DESERT BLUE is set in the off-beat California town of Baxter, pop. 89. Baxter's only traffic consists of tourists who stop to gawk at its landmark - a giant pink ice cream cone - on their way to more "exciting" destinations. The town is also home to Baxter Beach, an unfinished desert ocean park complete with water slide, boats and canoes. Seemingly stuck for good in Baxter are Blue (Brendan Sexton III, Pecker) and his innocently rebellious teenage friends, who constantly try to relieve their boredom and find a sense of purpose in a place devoid of opportunities. Pete (Casey Affleck, 200 Cigarettes) has his eye on defending his All Terrain Vehicle extreme racing championship, while his girlfriend, El (Christina Ricci, The Opposite of Sex) hones her art of explosives. Blue's best buddy, Cale (Ethan Suplee, "American History X") dreams of becoming the town deputy, while Sandy (Sara Gilbert, TV's Roseanne) sells soft-serve ice cream cones from the roadside attraction. But all changes when a truck carrying a secret ingredient to the local soda factory crashes, spilling its contents and resulting in the mysterious death of the truck's driver. The FBI quarantines the town until it can determine the exact contents of the tanker. A toxic chemical scare is in full effect. Enter Skye (Kate Hudson, 200 Cigarettes) a beautiful young television star passing through on a road trip with her father (John Heard, "Snake Eyes"). Trapped in Baxter due to the spill, Skye is troubled more by the huge audition she will miss in L.A. than by the actual prospect of fatal contamination. With nothing better to do, she finds herself hanging out with Blue and his posse. Discussions of doom, mutual disinterest and skepticism turn into a budding romance as Blue and Skye discover that they have more in common than either originally suspected.

"I wanted to describe the agony of a wounded soul of someone decaying from the inside." – Kei Fujiwara, Director

ORGAN- A Film by Kei Fujiwara

Two horrific and blood-drenched stories intertwine in this graphically violent feature film from Kei Fujiwara (star of TETSUO).

A Tokyo police officer falls victim to a Yakuza body-parts selling syndicate. Numata, the officer’s brother, investigates and discovers the evil Yoko, leader of the syndicate. The alternate plotline involves Seaki, Yoko’s Biology teacher brother, as he conducts experiments on the reanimated, limbless body of the missing police officer…keeping him alive with the blood taken from high school virgin girls.

This film caused a huge controversy in Japan when it was released theatrically, forcing the director to release it in a cut form even in the Japanese cinemas. This DVD release will be the complete, uncut version of the film.

Here’s what critics are saying about ORGAN:

"…the audience is subjected to an endless array of hideous and grotesque imagery, perhaps the most perverse scenes ever captured on film." – The Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia

But when, during a class field trip to the White House, they cluelessly wander into a behind-closed-doors, top-secret shredding session, it's time to both wag the dog and walk it. Seeking to uncover just how much the witless duo discovered, the Commander-in-Chief appoints them "Official White House Dog Walkers," and it isn't long before the girls go from taking out Checkers, to taking out tricky Dick.

ELITE TO RELEASE COMMUNION AND BAVA DOUBLE FEATURE ON DVD

COMMUNION

Starring Christopher Walken, Lindsay Crouse and Frances Sternhagen

Based on the best-selling novel by Whitley Strieber, COMMUNION features what is considered by many to be Christopher Walken's finest performance to date. COMMUNION depicts the personal and professional crises a writer experiences after a series of encounters with non-human beings. This film is arguably the most intelligent film about the alien abduction/ visitor phenomenon. Unlike countless made-for-TV films, where the emphasis is on the sensationalistic, "shocking" aspects of the subject, COMMUNION focuses on the psychological and emotional harm the experience does. We see Strieber (Walken) describe his experiences to his medical doctor, and then to a psychiatrist. Once his own mental health has been established, then (and only then) does he begin to consider the possibility that the creatures he has seen are actually real. Did Streiber actually experience these abductions? You be the judge.

This special edition DVD features deleted footage, theatrical trailer, audio commentary and more!

COLUMBIA TRISTAR HOME VIDEO TO RELEASE THE SCHOOL OF FLESH AND BIZET'S CARMEN ON DVD

On December 7, 1999 Columbia TriStar Home Video will release the following two titles on DVD.

THE SCHOOL OF FLESH

SYNOPSIS
Transposed to present-day Paris, The School of Flesh offers a fresh interpretation of the archetypal May/December love story, one that considers its characters in all their human complexities and contradictions. An intense physical attraction makes lovers of Dominique (Isabelle Huppert, "Amateur") a poised, sophisticated career woman, and Quentin (newcomer, Vincent Martinez), a handsome, streetwise young hustler. She gives him a nice place to live and he gives her youth, beauty and excitement. For a time, the power of desire is enough to overcome their differences of age, class and experience, but their insidious affair eventually drives them both to the edge, which forces Dominique to reconcile the conflicts created by her passion. In this quest, Dominique is aided (and sometimes hindered) by friends, clients and Quentin's former and current acquaintances.

ELITE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES MASTERWORKS OF THE GERMAN HORROR CINEMA TRIPLE FEATURE.

NOSFERATU, DER GOLEM and THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI come to DVD

For the first time ever, these three silent German classics come to you in one HORRIFIC package. All fully restored and in the original running times,

NOSFERATU (1922 Black & White SILENT Approximately 94min. Aspect ratio 1.33:1) In all of cinema history no villain has ever topped Dracula in darkness and evil and no version of the vampire has yet to match as the dreaded Count Orlok. Considered to be the first vampire movie and as one of the most creepy looking vampires to grace the screen. Count Orlok swept through the German town of Bremen like as plague claiming the innocent until a fair heroine takes it upon herself to stop this monster, Schreck's rather stiff and corpse-like Count makes this film a pure classic and would forever be known,

DER GOLEM (1920 Black & White SILENT Approximately 85 min Aspect ratio 1.33:1) Before Frankenstein thrilled audiences Paul Weneger delivered this classic silent tale which even to this day remains as one of the most impressive German films of the period. Weneger stars as the clay man, who is brought to life by a rabbi to help protect a Jewish ghetto from its enemies, The creature owes its life to sacred words contained in a star on its chest. The Golem is used for both good and bad deeds and ultimately rebels against the people, wrecking havoc on the very community he was created to protect,

THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI (1921 Black & White SILENT 'Approximately 90 min. Aspect ratio 1.33: 1) Long considered to be the first true horror movie, Dr. Caligari is the archtype mad scientist out to do evil deeds with the aide of a sleepwalker named Cesere. Cesere murders those whom the Doctor feels are too close to his evil deeds. The setting is both nightmarish and expressionistic in its use of exaggerated sets and weird angles. The shock ending is only the icing in a movie that literally invents a whole genre of horror devices- the mad scientist, the zombie, the helpless heroine carried onto the roofs,

Package includes extensive liner notes, and still galleries featuring all original poster art, lobby cards, etc.
Retail price for this classic triple feature DVD set: $54.95
