ABOUT THE ORIGINAL FILM

SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE Special Edition blends elements of science fiction, action, thrills and romance with Christopher Reeve in the dual role of Superman and mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent. The film made Reeve an instant, international star.

The film won an Academy Award® for Special Achievement in Visual Effects and was nominated for Oscars® in three other categories-Best Film Editing, Best Original Score and Best Sound. Reeve won the Best Newcomer Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and John Williams won a Grammy for his score.

Marlon Brando portrays Jor-El, Superman's father from the planet Krypton and Gene Hackman is the dreaded Lex Luthor, mankind's worst enemy. Also starring in memorable supporting roles are Ned Beatty as Otis, Luthor's bumbling assistant; Jackie Cooper as Perry White, frenzied editor of Metropolis' The Daily Planet, Glenn Ford and Phyllis Thaxter as Jonathan and Martha Kent, surrogate parents to Superman on Earth; Trevor Howard as the First Elder on Krypton, Margot Kidder as The Daily Planet's ace reporter Lois Lane, who is smitten with Superman and his heroics but remains indifferent to the awkward advances of his alter ego Clark Kent; Valerie Perrine as Luthor's sexy but disloyal girlfriend Eve, Maria Schell as Vond-Ah, Terence Stamp as General Zod, and Susannah York as Lara, Superman's biological mother. Christopher Reeve stars in all four SUPERMAN movies and Gene Hackman appears in all except SUPERMAN III which co-stars Richard Pryor.

FURTHER HISTORY OF THE ‘SUPERMAN’ PHENOMENON

The Superman phenomenon dates back to the early 1930's when it first surfaced as a science fiction story, then as a comic book, a comic strip, a radio program, a movie serial, seven early feature films and a television series starring the late George Reeves. Superman merchandising has been a billion-dollar cottage industry throughout the world. `Supermania' hit its peak with the production of SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE, produced for $55 million (a huge budget for the 1970's including a $3.7 million salary going to Brando for his legendary two weeks of work). The film took in a domestic box office gross of almost $135 million and a worldwide gross of more than $300 million

An Alexander Salkind presentation of a Richard Donner film, SUPERMAN was directed by Donner from a story by Mario Puzo. The screenplay was by Mario Puzo, David Newman, Leslie Newman and Robert Benton. Tom Mankiewicz was creative consultant. Ilya Salkind was executive producer and Pierre Spengler produced the film. John Williams composed and conducted the music. SUPERMAN, an Alexander and Ilya Salkind production, is distributed by Warner Bros.

SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE will sell for $24.98 SRP on DVD (VHS: $14.95 SRP). The three sequels will each sell for $19.98 SRP for the DVD and $9.94 VHS. The complete four-film SUPERMAN collection will sell for $79.92 SRP for the DVD and $39.92 SRP for the VHS.

All four SUPERMAN movies are rated PG. With additional footage, SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE Special Edition is 151 minutes. SUPERMAN II runs 127 minutes, SUPERMAN III runs 125 minutes and SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE runs 90 minutes.

In addition, the DVD also features a behind-the-scenes featurette, theatrical trailer, production notes, and more. Offering an irresistible blend of humor, romance and inspiring entertainment, THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE DVD release will be priced for as low as $20.

THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE DVD FEATURES

THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE DVD features an introduction by Redford, Insight Into The Making Of Bagger Vance in which he discusses the film's inspiration and his perspective on the making of the film. Also included is a behind-the-scenes featurette, plus theatrical trailers, production notes, and cast and crew biographies. THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE also is presented in both Dolby Digital and DTS Sound.

THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE SYNOPSIS

From Academy Award-winning director Robert Redford comes a film that celebrates the power and potential of the human spirit. Will Smith, Oscar® winner Matt Damon, and Charlize Theron star in this highly-acclaimed tale of a local hero with a promising future whose hopes are shattered on the battlefields of war. The disillusioned young man turns his back on the world - until a fateful visit from a mysterious stranger turns his life around.

THE MAKING OF A GOLF PRO

At the center of THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE is a pivotal golf match pitting one-time amateur champion Rannulph Junuh ( Damon), against two of the greatest golfers of all time: Bobby Jones (Joel Gretsch) and Walter Hagen (Bruce McGill). However, prior to being cast, Damon had never swung a golf club. PGA master professional Tim Moss came on board as the film's technical advisor and was given the mission of turning the novice Damon into someone who would be a believable challenge to Jones and Hagen. As described by Moss, "In order to present Matt as a legitimate player, I had two choices: I could make him a cosmetic player, or I could teach him to really hit the golf ball. Since there were so many golf shots to be played, I decided the best thing to do would be to teach him exactly as I would anyone else, to turn him into a fundamentally sound player." Moss reports that Damon took to the game quickly and, as a result, the actor ended up with blisters on his hands from spending hours on the driving range. In fact, during one practice session, he swung the clubs so hard, he separated his ribs. Despite that little setback, however, the actor states, "I'm completely addicted to the game now."

JINX THE CAT CHATS! PRESENTED BY AOL, TV GUIDE ONLINE, & UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOME VIDEO

Feline Stars In Hit Comedy MEET THE PARENTS debuting On VHS And DVD On March 6, 2001

Jinx the Cat, who made quite a splash as the toilet-trained cat in the comedy megahit "MEET THE PARENTS," also stars with Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller in Universal Studios Home Video’s DVD/VHS version, set for nationwide release on Tuesday, March 6th. Jinx is seen here at his home, where recently he "autographed" a number of DVDs for fans.

The feline performer will also participate in an online chat through TV Guide Online and hosted by America Online, Monday, March 5th at 8:00 PM (EST) and will be available to answer questions about his scene-stealing performance in "MEET THE PARENTS ," hailed by leading critics as one of the funniest films of the year.

Jinx, who did all his own stunts in the film, scratched and clawed his way to movie stardom. The Himalayan-American starred opposite Sally Field and Michael J. Fox in "Homeward Bound II," and, despite this, faced some fur-raising competition from his peers during auditions for "MEET THE PARENTS ." But Jinx sprang to the challenge and turned in a biting performance, opposite Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller, drawing howls of appreciation from audiences everywhere. Although Jinx enjoyed working in the hit comedy, he wants to shed the possibility of being typecast. "I'd like to try more dramatic roles and I'm also very interested in doing live theater, particularly Shakespeare," said the four-legged thespian. "But what I really want to do is direct!"

MEET THE PARENTS, a Universal/DreamWorks co-production, was directed by Jay Roach ("Austin Powers").
