FANTOMA ANNOUNCES THE GREAT SILENCE FOR DVD

On an unforgiving, snow swept frontier, a group of bloodthirsty bounty hunters, led by the vicious Loco (Klaus Kinski Nosferatu, For a Few Dollars More) prey on a band of persecuted outlaws who have taken to the hills. As the price on each head is collected one-by-one, only a mute gunslinger named Silence (Jean-Louis Trintignant The Conformist) stands between the innocent refuges and the greed and corruption that the bounty hunters represent. But, in this harsh, brutal world, the lines between right and wrong aren't always clear and good doesn't always triumph.

Featuring superb photography and a haunting score from maestro Ennio Morricone, director Sergio Corbucci's (Django, Compañeros) bleak, brilliant and violent vision of an immoral, honorless west is widely considered to be among the very best and most influential Euro-Westerns ever made.

HBO’S HOMERUN HIT 61* SWINGS INTO VIDEO STORES, SEPTEMBER 11

The boys of summer can be found in the video store this fall when HBO Home Video releases the critically-acclaimed, Billy Crystal directed film 61*. In a film that The New York Times called a "memorable drama" and "lasting tribute," co-stars Thomas Jane and Barry Pepper dramatize the pursuit of Babe Ruth’s home run record by New York Yankees superstars Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Marking the first time an HBO Film has gone directly from the network to the sell-through market, 61* makes a quick turnaround from its network premiere date of April 28 to the home video street date of September 11. The release of 61* will be supported by a major advertising campaign and will feature exclusive to DVD bonus attributes including an hour-long special, "The Greatest Summer of My Life: Billy Crystal and the Making of 61*." 61* on DVD will be available for $19.98 SRP and $14.95 SRP on VHS. (Order Due Date: 8/14/01).

In the summer of 1961, Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle chased one of baseball’s most hallowed records: Babe Ruth’s 1927 single-season mark of 60 home runs. In the spotlight of the press and at the mercy of public opinion the men faced mounting pressure that threatened to turn what should have been a season of triumph into a nightmare. Ultimately it was their deep friendship, mutual respect and love of baseball that saw Maris and Mantle through their historic pursuit. Now HBO Home Video brings their story home in 61*, a heartfelt film about America’s favorite pastime.

Six-time Emmy® winner Billy Crystal directs what the critics have called an "engrossing drama filled with love of the game" (US Weekly) and "a definitive sports epic for the ages" (Hollywood Reporter). With a script by Hank Steinberg and cinematography by two-time Academy Award® winner Haskell Wexler, 61* has been described as "excellent" (Warner Wolf,WCBS-TV), "extraordinary" (USA Today) and "a gem" (Dallas Morning News). Inspired by Crystal’s love affair with the Yankees and baseball, 61* "joins ‘Bull Durham’ and ‘Field of Dreams’ and ‘The Natural’ on the roster of all-star baseball movies of the last 20 years…great performances…It’s really a terrific movie" (Richard Roeper, Ebert & Roeper and the Movies).

Adding to the anticipation of the HBO Home Video release, 61* on DVD will feature special bonus attributes that are exclusive to the DVD. In addition to the behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of 61*, the DVD features an exclusive audio commentary given by Billy Crystal in which the director reveals insights into the production and the story upon which the film was based. Other items featured on the DVD include historical information about baseball heroes Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris as well as a 1961 homerun race timeline. The DVD release will be presented in 16X9 widescreen format and will include interactive menus, web links, cast bios, chapter selections, subtitles, English Dolby Surround and Spanish Mono.

61* stars Barry Pepper ("Saving Private Ryan"), Thomas Jane ("Deep Blue Sea"), Richard Masur ("Play It to the Bone"), Bruce McGill ("The Insider"), Chris Bauer ("Flawless"), Christopher McDonald ("Family Law"), Donald Moffat ("Cookie’s Fortune"), Jennifer Crystal Foley ("Once and Again"), Renee Taylor ("The Nanny"), Bob Gunton ("The Perfect Storm") and Anthony Michael Hall ("Pirates of Silicon Valley"). The film was executive produced by Billy Crystal and HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg (HBO’s "When It Was A Game") and produced by Robert F. Colesberry (HBO’s Emmy®-winning "The Corner").

HBO HOME VIDEO PRESENTS EMMA THOMPSON IN WIT, AVAILABLE ON SEPTEMBER 4

Based on the 1999 Pulitzer-Prize winning play by Margaret Edson, WIT chronicles one woman’s journey as she faces her own mortality with dignity and humor. Featuring the Academy Award® winning actress Emma Thompson and Academy Award® winning director, Mike Nichols, WIT explores the trials of disciplined English professor, Vivian Bearing, who finds her rational approach to life overturned when she is diagnosed with cancer. WIT will be available on HBO Home Video on DVD and VHS beginning September 4. Priced for rental on VHS, the DVD has an SRP of $19.98. (Runtime 99 minutes, Rated PG-13, Order Due Date: VHS 8/14/01, DVD 8/7/01)

English literary scholar Vivian Bearing (Emma Thompson) is a disciplined academician, a renowned expert in the brilliantly intricate metaphysical poetry of John Donne. She is prickly, precise and intensely rational in her teaching and in her life. Her passion is reserved for the classroom, yet her penetrating intelligence and biting wit alienate her students. When she is suddenly faced with the most daunting of personal crises – a diagnosis of ovarian cancer – her 17th century poetic world collides with 21st century experimental medicine, and a personal awakening is set in motion.

The HBO Films adaptation of the award-winning play stars two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson ("Sense and Sensibility," "Howard’s End") and is directed by Oscar® winner Mike Nichols ("The Graduate"). The cast of WIT includes Emmy Award® winner Christopher Lloyd ("Taxi," "Back to the Future"), actress-writer Eileen Atkins ("The Avengers," "The Dresser"), three-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald ("Ragtime"), Jonathan M. Woodward ("Pipe Dream"), and renowned British playwright Harold Pinter ("The Dumb Waiter," "Betrayal").

"We were delighted to collaborate with Paramount in the creation of this extraordinary DVD collection," added Kim Aubry, Zoetrope's VP of Technology and Executive Producer of the DVDs. "To have the opportunity to take films that we truly love and spend six months looking through the vaults for interesting 'lost' objects was something too good to pass up.
