YOU'RE NOT ELECTED, CHARLIE BROWN ($20) is an amusing and wholly inaccurate title for this particular animated Peanuts Special, since Charles M. Schulz lovable loser wasn’t even in the running. The premise of YOU'RE NOT ELECTED, CHARLIE BROWN finds Linus running for Student Body President, after Charlie Brown finds, through a quick opinion poll, that it wouldn’t even be worth throwing his hat in the ring. Linus proves quite adept at making speeches and telling his constituents exactly what the want to hear, however as the election draws near candidate van Pelt makes one too many speeches and speaks out on a topic that may cost him the election. A secondary program is also included on the DVD- the 2006 Peanuts Special HE'S A BULLY, CHARLIE BROWN. In HE'S A BULLY, CHARLIE BROWN, the Peanuts gang go off to summer camp where a marbles hustler takes advantage of Lucy & Linus’ little brother, and it falls to Charlie Brown and Snoopy to save the day.

Warner Home Video has made YOU'RE NOT ELECTED, CHARLIE BROWN and HE'S A BULLY, CHARLIE BROWN available on DVD in their original 4:3 full screen television ratios. YOU'RE NOT ELECTED, CHARLIE BROWN has been given a spiffy new transfer bests the previous release by a wide margin. The image is much sharper and better defined than it was. Colors are nicely saturated. The elements from which the special have been transferred appear free from major defects. HE'S A BULLY, CHARLIE BROWN looks really nice, which isn’t much of a surprise since the program is only a few years old. Digital compression artifacts are well contained on both programs.

Both programs come with solid Dolby Digital monaural soundtracks. The tracks have been a digital scrubbing, which removes the most glaring signs of age, as well as the majority of background hiss. There are some minor fluctuations, but nothing is out of sorts. Fidelity is decidedly limited, but it all gets by. Dialogue is crisp and easy to understand. Japanese and Portuguese language tracks have also been encoded onto the DVD, as have English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Thai subtitles.

Music underscores the basic interactive menus, which allow one access to the standard episode selection and set up features, as well as The Polls Don't Lie: The Making Of You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown, a twelve-minute look back at the special.

Although released to tie in with the 2008 political season, YOU'RE NOT ELECTED, CHARLIE BROWN is another title Peanuts fans will want to add to their collections.
