UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY ($25) is the superior follow-up to Steven Seagal’s big hit that was basically DIE HARD on a ship. In UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY, Seagal returns to the role of Casey Ryback, the ex-Navy SEAL turned chef. This time out, Ryback has to face off against mercenaries who have seized a passenger train and are using it as a mobile command post for a secret satellite weapon that they have hijacked from the US government. Once the passengers have been abducted and the train taken, the plot moves back into the DIE HARD mold, with Ryback eluding capture as he begins picking off the mercenaries one by one. Eric Bogosian seems to be having a grand time chewing on the scenery as Dane, the crazed computer whiz who designed and hijacked the satellite weapon. Everett McGill also delivers an over-the-top performance as Penn, the head mercenary. The cast of UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY also includes Katherine Heigl, Morris Chestnut, Brenda Bakke, Sandra Taylor and Kurtwood Smith. UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY is filled with great stunt work and excellent action sequences that use the film’s train setting to marvelous effect. Action movie fans are certain to enjoy UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY.

Warner Home Video offers UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY in both Letterboxed and full screen presentations on opposite sides of the DVD. The full screen version is okay for those opposed to Letterboxing and has good image quality. The Letterboxed version looks terrific and features the anamorphic enhancement for wide screen televisions. Viewers will find UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY to be more esthetically pleasing with its 1.85:1 theatrical aspect ratio restored. The Letterboxed transfer is smooth and well detailed, while colors reproduce with excellent saturation. MPEG-2 compression artifacts were never an issue on either presentation.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 channel re-mixed soundtrack is quite good and certain to please action movie fans. The mix makes excellent use of the discrete channel capabilities of the format. Other soundtrack options include a Dolby Surround compatible track as well as a French language track. Subtitles are available in English, French and Spanish.

The interactive menus offer access to eight theatrical trailers, plus production notes and cast and crew biographies/filmographies.

UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY is a lot of fun for action movie fans and the DVD is great. Recommended.
