The Hammer film library has been high on the wish lists of many DVD and Laserdisc collectors for an eternity. Despite their desires, proper editions of many films from the Hammer film library have eluded collectors since the the early days of both formats.
Since Hammer was a small independent and foreign film production company, the rights to their films are scattered amongst multiple home video companies. The video rights to one of the multiple packages of titles did revert to Hammer, thus allowing Anchor Bay Entertainment to gain the DVD rights and Elite Entertainment Inc. to acquire the Laserdisc rights.
Unfortunately, the rights to many Hammer classics still reside with home video companies that show little or no interest in releasing them on DVD. That's where the services of the long suffering collectors are required. DVD collectors must take the time to contact the various home video companies and let them know that they want to see the Hammer film library released on DVD. Collectors should also let the various home video companies know that if they have no interest in releasing their Hammer films on DVD, Anchor Bay Entertainment will be more than happy to release the Hammer films for them. The folks at Anchor Bay Entertainment recognize the importance of the Hammer film library, and are providing DVD collectors with the type of releases that do justice to these wonderful films.
